Faces of Chennai

Growing up in Mannady, I got to witness some of the hardest working humans as a kid. I've seen a rickshaw puller who looks like the male version of olive oyl but could pull a rickshaw loaded with 5 people. I once got lost during my preschool, on a rainy night, and it was a rickshaw man who rescued and dropped me home safely. He didn't even get money from my parents when they offered him. As I grew up, autos started to rule the streets pushing the rickshaw men out of business, and I remember feeling really bad for them, as they were mostly very poor people who used to live on the street. Now it's almost extinct except for like 2-3 rickshaws in Mannady and few other areas. .
